Seniors Need Health Care Reform Like Medicare and Social Security

Elderly_dispair.jpgEvery American Senior has benefitted from Democratic leadership which implemented Social Security and Medicare.  Republicans have been on recorded for many decades opposing and trying to kill both of these pillars of stability of older U.S. Citizens.   Health Care Reform will be the 3rd pillar enabling lower health care costs and expanding quality care.

Look at the long list of the Republican record on Social Security and Medicare after the video:

1935 – Almost all Republicans in Congress opposed the creation of Social Security

1939 – 75% of Republican Senators in Congress tried to kill legislation providing Social Security benefits for retirees and dependents

1950 – 79% of Republicans in the House and 89% of Republicans in the Senate voted to defeat Disability Insurance

1956 – 86% of Republicans in the Senate again opposed Disability Insurance

1961 – Ronald Reagan tried to prevent Medicare by injecting ‘Socialism’ into the debate before President Lyndon Johnson signed it into law in 1965

1964 – George H.W. Bush, tries to kill Medicare, described Medicare as ‘Socialized Medicine’

1964 – Barry Goldwater blasted Social Security

1965 – 93% of Republicans in the House and 62% of Republicans in the Senate tried to kill Medicare again

1981 – President Ronald Reagan and Republicans cut $24 billion from Social Security and Medicare

1982 – President Ronald Reagan and Republicans again proposed $40 billion in cuts from Medicare

1996 – Republican Bob Dole bragged about voting against Medicare in 1965

2004 – Every Republican and George W Bush voted against the solvency of Medicare and Social Security

2005 – President George W Bush tried to ‘privatize’ Social Security and invest it into the risky stock market

Democrats have always stood up for America’s working class, establishing the security needed for health care and retirement. Presidents Roosevelt, Kennedy, Johnson and heroes like Senator Ted Kennedy have arduously fought to ensure government works for American.
