Geocaching for Seniors and Boomers

Geocaching.jpgA new trend called ”geocaching” is getting boomers and seniors out of doors and doing something fun.  Geocaching is a relatively new ‘sport’ which is a kind of ‘high-tech’ treasure hunt which uses a simply hand-held GPS device to locate ‘treasure’ in your area.Neighbors and friends who participate in geocaching hide little ‘treasures’, called geocaches, outdoors and in geographic areas which can be located using the GPS device.   A typical ‘cache’ or treasure, is a small waterproof container (maybe a tupperware or ammo box) containing a logbook and “treasure,” and maybe some small toys or trinkets of little value.  This activity allows boomers and seniors to use a little brain power along with a little physical exercise to adventurously seek out these ‘treasures’ and then report their findings and share their experiences online.

This high-tech treasure hunting game, which began in the U.S. in May of 2000, is being played around the world and in 166 countries, which contain close to 800,000 active geocaches treasure sites.

Seniors and boomers can participate individually or as partners, etc.

Simply go The Official Global GPS Cache Hunt Site to learn more and register.  The site allows anyone to simply enter their postal zip code or address to locate ‘treasures’ near you.
